Holiday homes with a fenced garden
A fenced garden gives peace of mind when small children or a dog are travelling with you, because the play area has a boundary. How good that boundary is depends on the fence itself.

Below are homes where the owner says the garden is fenced. How high the fence is and what it is made of is on the home's page or can be asked.
What to look for
- Ask how high the fence is and what it is made of. A hedge, a wire fence and a wooden panel fence do not stop the same things.
- Check whether there is a gate and whether it closes. A gate that stands open or will not latch makes the fence pointless.
- Ask whether there is water in or next to the garden, such as a pond, a pool or a stream. Fenced does not automatically mean safe for small children.
- Check whether the whole garden is fenced or only part of it. Sometimes only the area around the terrace is closed off.
Frequently asked questions
Is the whole garden fenced?
The feature does not say. It only shows that, according to the owner, the garden is fenced. Whether that is all the way round or partly, you can read in the description or ask.
Can my dog or child definitely not get out?
No page can promise that. A fence says nothing about height, gaps underneath or a gate. Ask, especially with a young dog or a child who climbs.
Can my dog come to a home like this?
Not every home with a fenced garden accepts dogs. That is in the house rules. If in doubt, ask in your request and mention how many dogs you bring.
Is the garden private or shared?
That varies. At some homes the garden is yours alone, at others you share it with other guests or with the owner. Ask if privacy matters to you.
