Holiday homes in the woods
A home in the woods sits among trees, often at the end of a dirt road or a narrow path. That brings quiet and dark nights, and it also means you should think about the location.

Below you will find homes located in the woods or in wooded areas. For each home you can see the features and the location, so you know how remote it is and what is nearby.
What to look for
- Ask what the last kilometre looks like. An unpaved track is pleasant by day, less so in the dark or after rain.
- Check whether there is mobile signal and wifi. Among the trees the connection sometimes drops, and you want to know that beforehand.
- Bring insect repellent and check yourself and the children for ticks after a walk.
- Ask about the rules for open fires. A fire pit or barbecue is often restricted in woods, especially in dry weather.
Frequently asked questions
Is a home in the woods remote?
Often, but not always. The location ranges from a house among a few neighbours to a home completely alone. Ask for the distance to the nearest shop and neighbours if that matters to you.
Can I get there without a car?
Usually not easily. Many homes in the woods are far from a stop. Ask about the distance to public transport and whether the owner has tips for arriving.
Can I light a fire?
That is up to the owner and depends on local rules. If it is not in the house rules, ask beforehand. Never light a fire without the owner's permission.
Will I see wild animals?
You might, but the owner cannot promise it. In woods you sometimes hear animals at night. Feel free to ask what guests usually see there and what is best avoided.
