- Check whether the garden is really fenced, and how high. A low hedge will not stop a young dog.
- Ask whether your dog may stay in the house alone. Many owners prefer that he does not, and that shapes how you plan your days.

Not always. A fence says nothing about its height, about gates, or about gaps underneath. Ask if your dog likes to explore on his own.
