De Biestraatseweide

De Biestraatse Weide sits just outside the village of Gilze, between Tilburg and Breda. Rianne and Adriaan van Hoek are the fourth generation on this farm: Adriaan's great-grandfather started keeping dairy cows here in 1904. They turned the former cowsheds into three identically furnished apartments, and behind the farm they laid out a garden with an orchard and terraces, with wide views over the meadows. Each apartment is a studio for one or two people. You have a spacious living room with TV and Chromecast, a fully equipped kitchenette with hob and extractor hood, oven, fridge, dishwasher, coffee machine and kettle, and an en-suite bedroom behind sliding doors. It has a made-up box-spring bed, as a double or as two singles. The bathroom has a large walk-in shower, shampoo, body wash, hand soap and a hairdryer, and bath linen and bathrobes are provided. The toilet is separate and every apartment has air conditioning. Breakfast is set out in your own kitchen in the morning, so you eat whenever it suits you. You have a private covered terrace and your own seating area in the garden with loungers. In the orchard you are welcome to pick fruit when it is in season. It is a quiet place to work too: the wifi is good and on request Rianne and Adriaan put a free 80 by 140 cm work table in your apartment. Parking at the door is free, from 9 am on the day you arrive. There is a charging point for electric cars and a bike shed with charging point. The B&B is on the walking and cycling junction network. The Chaamse bossen, Dorst forest, the Ulvenhoutse bos, the Markdal and the Mastbos are close by, and the Oranje-Nassaupad long-distance trail runs through the area. The Efteling and Safaripark Beekse Bergen are within driving distance, and you can play golf at Princenbosch and Prise d'Eau. Five minutes by car is the 't Zand recreation area with a swimming lake and sandy beach, and the Zeeland coast is an hour's drive. Gilze itself has a handful of restaurants and cafés. Check-in is from 3 pm, check-out by 11 am. You get the key in person; if you arrive later, it is in a key safe next to the door and you receive the code by WhatsApp. The apartments are non-smoking and pets are not allowed. Tourist tax and cleaning are included in the price.
